F.A.Q.
How do I know if therapy is right for me?
The American Psychological Association recommends you consider seeing a therapist when something causes distress and negatively impacts some part of your life, interfering or preventing you from doing what you want or need to do. Approximately 1 in 5 adult Americans struggle with a mental health condition, with anxiety and depression most prevalent. Counseling isn't just for those who are struggling with mental illness. “Talk therapy” or counseling provides a safe, non-judgmental place to talk about your relationships and experiences, explore and expand your options, and develop better skills to manage various life challenges. During the complimentary, 15-minute introductory consultation phone call, we can talk about your needs and goals for seeking therapy and how our services can help.

What is a professional counselor, LPC and LPC-S?
A professional counselor is a masters-level mental health professional who is approved by a state licensure board to diagnose and treat mental health disorders. For example, a professional counselor might help a client overcome depression or anxiety. In addition, a professional counselor can help clients with non-medical issues, like helping a couple improve communication. The Texas State Board of Examiners of Professional Counselors, under the Texas Behavioral Health Executive Council, licenses and regulates Licensed Professional Counselors in Texas, ensuring they are qualified and competent practitioners. The Board establishes qualifications for licensure, as well as the ethical standards to practice as a professional counselor in the state of Texas.

What age of clients do you work with?
Jill works with adult and young adult clients (ages 18+) via the telehealth private practice. She works with children and adolescent clients In Person only at a group practice in the Houston / Katy area.

Is online / telehealth therapy a good choice for me?
Telehealth can be very beneficial and effective for most clients. Additionally, online sessions can offer more convenience than in person sessions. Instead of spending extra time in traffic getting to an office, clients can join the session from the comfort of their own home or office.
If you have severe symptoms or more serious mental health concerns, in person sessions are probably a better approach for you. Face-to-face meetings provide more opportunity for in-person intervention and response in the event of a mental health crisis.

Are your services covered by insurance?
Many clients use insurance benefits to help cover the cost of services. Some insurance plans even cover the full cost of the session. Jill Wiseman, MA, LPC-S is a credentialed In Network provider with multiple insurance plans. Click here to check if your plan is included.
Self-pay clients are also welcome! If you don’t have behavioral health insurance benefits or if you opt not to use your insurance, you will be billed out of pocket.
A Superbill can be provided for clients who want to submit the claim themselves to their insurance company for out of network benefits. Wiseman Counseling & Therapy only files claims for in network plans, using the services of our business associate, ALMA.
What are your fees? How do I pay?
For clients using In Network insurance benefits, the rates vary depending on the terms of the insurance contract. Once you submit your insurance plan details, you will receive a Verification of Benefits which will let you know what your cost will be. Self-pay clients who are paying out of pocket (not using insurance) will receive a Good Faith Estimate specifying the cost of services and fees. Click here for more information on rates and payments.
Wiseman Counseling & Therapy accepts all major credit, debit, HSA, FSA cards. Credit/debit card payments occur through my HIPAA-compliant patient portal, which securely stores your payment information and automatically charges your card for your session or additional fees.

Do you accept Medicaid or Medicare?
Jill Wiseman, MA, LPC-S is not an approved provider for Medicaid or Medicare.

How long are your sessions, and how often will we meet?
Sessions usually last between 45 to 60 minutes. Weekly sessions are generally recommended for the most impact, especially at the start of our work together. Once the client has met some of the treatment goals, the client and therapist may agree to meet less frequently, such as biweekly. During the Intake (first session), we will talk about your goals and agree on a plan of action for our work together.

How long will I need to do therapy?
This varies from client to client. The treatment goals, therapeutic approach, and the client’s motivation, consistency and dedication to effecting change all play an important role in determining the course of therapy. My goal is to maximize the benefits of therapy to help clients grow and change as quickly as possible. Some clients want a brief course of therapy focused on one presenting issue, while other clients enjoy less frequent, long term supportive therapy. We will periodically evaluate your progress and discuss the next steps that are right for you.
How do I set up an appointment and get started?
To schedule a complimentary, no pressure 15-minute phone consultation, please see the Contact page. We’ll talk about what brings you to therapy and if I’m the right fit for your needs and goals. I will explain what you can expect from the therapy process. I will also explain the business procedures and answer any questions you may have. If you are ready, we can schedule your first appointment.
Next, I will send you a link to the client portal so you can read, sign and submit the registration forms and Informed Consent agreements; these are required at least 24-hours prior to your first session. If you are using insurance benefits, you will need to register with a second client portal for the company that processes insurance claims and payments for Wiseman Counseling & Therapy.

What is your cancellation policy?
Clients are asked to provide at least 24-hour notice for any appointment cancellations or rescheduling. I understand that sometimes life happens and it is not possible to provide 24-hour notice. Regardless of the reason, cancellations made on the same day, or in the case of a client who does not show up for the session, a Late Cancellation / No Show fee of $50 will be automatically charged to the client’s credit card on file. This fee is not covered by insurance and is always paid out of pocket.
